Myanmar: Nat Pwe prior to Shinpyu

Twenty one days in Myanmar by road through those parts of the country safe to travel.  A 101 moments made the searing heat and the bumpy roads worthwhile.  Non more so than the moment during a Nat Pwe when the soon to be novice looked calmly straight at me.  The composure under the circumstances was impressive.  When enough money is available, a Nat Pwe may be hosted the night before a Shinpyu (Buddhist novice ordination ceremony) as a way of receiving the nat blessings – perhaps even asking the nat permission for the novice ordination. Often the nat pwe lasts from dusk till dawn; those spectators who object to nat pwe, or are fearful of the nat world, can then leave during the nat pwe and return later for the rest of the show.  There was little chance of me being afraid since at the time I was totally ignorant of what was actually taking place.
